Yo guys,
planning on buying a car. Should be a bit practical, but since I'll only have it a year or two until I have a more steady income I want something that is fun. Looking at a lot of cars but really cant think of anything that makes it tingle down there. Lol.
So Im up for anything, you got any suggestions? Im looking a bit at Evo's (FQ's: 300/350) that has been on the roads for a few years. Pretty cheap, but from what I know, very reliable cars. And FUN! lol
Z3M too.. Potential for some tuning
Z4 (3.5l or 3.0l) -04s or thereabouts.
130i M. A newer car with some decent power and relatively fun. 07's or thereabouts.
And well, that pretty much says what Im looking to spend- about 20k or around that ballpark. Im thinking Im pretty good at bargaining so a bit over the budget is okay possibly.
HELP ME!!

All terrible choices...JK If i had the money I would go for a Hyundai Genesis R spec. But its $38K and I highly doubt you like Hyundai lol.
I do like the 1 series like a mini 3 series, but isn't the 130i a hatchback? I find the 2 door coupe visually more appealing, but id imagine they are quite rare.
Im kind of a indifferent for BMW for the most part. But the Z3 looks like it would be an insane amount of fun.
What do you think about the Subaru 2.5 RS or do you guys get the 22b? Either way, you could pick one up for really cheap (cheaper than 20k) and use the money you saved my modding the hell of it. Its the best looking Subaru in my opinion. Just my suggestion.

The only person who can pick a car for you is you. It will likely end worse than miserable if you change your viewpoint based on other people's opinions. That being said...
I've never been a fan of the Z-coupes. Any of them... Don't know why, but they just look like a fifty-thousand-dollar S2000. Honestly (And this is coming from a guy that would rather have the cylinder head of a big block than an entire Civic) I'd rather just have the S2000 or a Miata and put all the money I could into replacing each and every possible wear item, and doing gobs of mods in the garage. I mean look at my bike lol...
Since you're Euro, I'd totally get an older 7-series and turn it into a V12 sleeper haha. Buy an older 735i E35 with that fucking gnarly-ass 5.4L V12, set it up with some very adjustable suspension, DIY turbo... you see where I'm going.
It all depends on whatever you want to do. If you want a super clean, stock car... if you want to get a decent car and do some simple bolt-ons, if you want to get a cheap car and dump a ton of money into making it your own...
Honestly, I'd get something reasonable, and then go buy a track car (And rent a place to keep it, whatever...). Best of both worlds.

Yeah, I wont chose a car based on what someone else wants/thinks, but Im just kinda not able to come up with good alternatives:) Hence asking:P
Transforming a car is really not possible since garage spaces are few and far between around where I live. And time limits that too, especially since Im not very good at cars in that regard. And I know better than to mess with a car if I know it will only get worse or break.
I'd love an s2k with some tuning done to it, but the car itself doesnt appeal to my girlfriend so kinda put that car away from the list.

Just buy this and be done with it: Linky
So what do you guys think of the new M3/M4? I think it looks pretty good, I just HATE that they took the I6 TT from last gens 335i and bumped up the boost some. That motor, although efficient, just has no soul or personality. RIP NA engines

Lol, I wish:P
No, I dont actually. The new 3 and 4 series look dumb. The nose all way down low looks retarded. But then again, most times when a new BMW releases, that's what I feel. Except for M3's.. So not sure what to make of this haha.
But yeah, Im all for I6's, but not this one. Twin turbo can screw itself. Even if the bmw engines turbos often are barely noticable, it still ruins the car a bit. But I guess it's needed for efficiency.

Forced induction is really the only way to go these days. Expect to not see any more N/A cars in the near future. And in a few years after that, expect motorcycle's and ORV's to follow. Even sleds benefit a lot from a turbo.
Natural aspiration these days is like what carburetors were like in the late 90's. Still works just fine, just isn't as workful. Lol.

A small update..
Been looking at hundreds of cars.. It feels like. Havent really fallen in love with any specific car and small things have made me not want to buy them (previous owners, dealers, price, dents, too noisy, and whatever else I didnt like when I was at the dealers). But it's more or less down to a few cars now, currently sitting at different dealers. Im in no rush and I want them as cheap as possible, or as much extra as possible. These are the main candidates.
BMW 335i '09. Blue exterior with black leather interior. 300+ hp. Decent insurance and it's mint. Aftermarket wheels (for summer obviously) with michelin ps3 on them. Price at dealer- 20k.
BMW 125i '12. Black exterior with black interior. A smaller engine, yet a very potent car with small modifications. It's all M-spec on it more or less. 30k, but brand new. Only done 5000 km.
BMW Z4M '06. Black exterior with black leather interior. Only driven during summer months and barely driven at all. Only downside is that there is no hardtop. 30k at dealer and pretty damn high insurance.
BMW 530i touring '10. Black exterior with black leather interior. Really like the car. Im looking at an older 530i too, not the touring version thou, and it's cheaper and Ive talked to schmiedmanns here in Sweden about doing a few things to it, mainly suspension, stiffening the chassis and adding power up to 300hp. The older non-touring is only 13k, the touring is 22k.
The outsider? A Z4 '04 Hamann edition. OMG. It's so cheap that there must be some major issues with it, or that it sucks complete balls. But considering it has only done 100 000 km, the common things that go out on BMW's have a fair bit to start making this a money pit. I cant believe it only costs 16k. The Hamann rims alone are worth 10k. And while I'd never pay for that myself, if I can get it "for free" it'd be fun. But Im not all that into it either way.
And then Im still looking at an evo 8 fq 320. But considering I want to be able to drive down to Italy from Sweden, that car is just a big no-no lol.

BMW... while a lovely marque of automobile, a Michigander sollte nie fahren ein. The straße's here in Michigan are so screwed up, BMW owners have to replace lower control arms every 40,000 km or so.
As a result, I have always joked that in Michigan, BMW stands for "Bring Money With."

Lol, who doesnt love top gear? Im not at all fuzzed with what people think of me so that's not a problem. And with how Swedens economy is, bmw's are so common it's kinda depressing. What's even more sad is that the general public cant see the difference between a 520d and a m5.
And what I dont get is why people in general have to be envious or dislike others choices in cars. I mean, I have no big interests that cost any money, I like cheap food and working out. I got low rent and save a lot of my income. If cars are my interest, why should it bother others how I divide the money I spend?
And that's nothing against anyone, just towards douches that I stumble upon too often in real life.
Talking about 520d thou, there was one bramd new at the dealer. I couldnt believe what I saw on that price tag.
But the roads in michigan must be downright atrocious if that's the case. I know the 3's and 5's from the 90's and early 00's had those troubles here in sweden too, not that my parents ever had any problems with their cars.
The only thing Im wary of with the mid 00's 5ers are that theyve been backed (or what it's called when the cars have rolled fewer km's than the computer says), since a lot have been tinkered with. And since the cars have quite big maintenance to be done by 200 000 kms it can be tricky with those models.
But yeah, I guess I'll be looking like a d***. I'll be one happy prick thou, with a big grin on my face when I go around bends.
Im sure there is more performance to be found with the money Im spending, but for some reason I like BMW. My grandad only ever had bimmers, same goes for my dad. So while it may seem stupid, that's just how it is. Had I been a more practical person with enough knowledge and skills Id love to do a project car and get much more performance. But the smaller bimmers will have to do for now until I can justify buying a M3 or M5. Althou, looking at just thr price for the V10 M5 it is getting pretty affordable. But being 23, living in the city the insurance would be something about 12k a year. Then add the gas price, which is even worse here in sweden than in usa, and the road taxes. Add car payments if you dont buy it cash and the monthly cost isnt really justifiable for me, with factoring the possibility of the car needing major service within 2 years the costs can be monumental. Oh what Id give to have that V10 thou lol.

See over here BMW's are imports so they are more expensive (think upper middle class on up). Also the highways on the rural side of Michigan aren't bad at all, same with in town for the most part, the shotty part is back roads around here. Detroit is god aweful for roads (and everything else pretty much). As a cyclist out on this side they do this chip and seal crap which turns the road into a quasi gravel road for a month, not great on paint jobs either. Then we have salt in the winter and the occasional hail. So we're just awesome on cars aren't we?

I forget there is a big ocean between europe and usa sometimes:P But doesnt bmw produce cars in the states?
But yeah, BMW arent cheap cars around here either. Not new at least. I mean, the 520d I mentioned costs about 85k. For a crappy diesel. Or well, not crappy, but it's entry level 5series for that much money. Pure stupidity. But the used one's become quite a bit more affordable. But that might not apply in america?
But having crappy roads might make you guys build even better cars, eh? Weather-wise I doubt it's worse than Sweden thou. Im unsure whether I live closer to the north pole, but I would think so. Couple 4 winter months with snow mixed with salt and mud and you can imagine what we are driving in most of the year.
Summer's great thou.

I don't believe BMW has a single factory in the US, but my knowledge on the matter is limited.
And as far as the OP. You need an M car. It doesn't really matter which one, they're all great to drive. Just get one and take pictures for those of us who wouldn't be able to afford tires for that bitch.

They build the X5 there as well as some of the roadsters. It's a beautiful facility and there is a very nice BMW museum there as well, housed along with a cafe and gift shop in an area known as "Der Zentrum" (the center). If you get a chance to visit it, you should... includin taking the plan tour of theier state of the art mfg operations. It's a fun time for any enthusiast.
