Hello, I was thinking about to start a DD wheel setup... I started by looking on forums and basically understood that i need to buy the pieces, make it together and hope it works A few points i was wondering: - anyone made it own system?
- any approach is better then other?
- any easy way to keep the buttons working on the rim?
I was aiming to go to the simucube route and get the "fanatec connector" to make the rim work with the buttons. I guess i would start with the small Milge motor...
so,.... any advice or hints?
thanks!
Luis

Check the site SimRacingBay. There you can check the prizes and the packages. Usually there are some OSW on the 2nd hand market, but as an OSW cost a year ago like EUR 1'800.-, the current prizes around EUR 1'000.- is very competitive. And yes, the small MiGe is more than enough to break your hands if set the parameter wrong. Assume from your thread that you have a Fanatec wheel. There are threads how to convert a Fanatec wheel to DD or if you are not super handy like me, there is a guy in the German forum who is delivering excellent work for around EUR 80.- including package delivery. But you need the adapter for the Fanatec QR1, which you could order at SimRacingBay in addition to a potential OSW order. (P.S. I also would have one but don't need it currently). With the installation I can't help as a friend did it for me within 20 minutes. Risks? There might be the risk of ghosting e.g. on your pedals. Mitigation would be some ground cables or in a worst case with a Potentialausgleichsschiene (haha, what a German word).

thanks for all the info! I applied for a beta tester with Fanatec. made the offer to pay for the best test version lets see how they respond! I checked the simracingbay site, it is nice, BUT, the price should be added VAT. at least it helped me to get the part list in details. I guess it can be assembled with 875 eur in a DIY version vs the 979 + VAT off the shelf. in either case, I will wait a few weeks to see the fanatec version, as it will be presented in September. my concern with the fanatec is their ability to get it spot on on the first shot... when they mention: no motor available like they want, built to our specs, single case wheel. it gives me the following impression: it will be bulkier, expensive and painful in the v1.0. anyway, lets see how they reply to my beta test request and i think i will decide after that. thanks for all the input! i doubt you'll be able to find the components separate, cheaper including the separate shipping compared to simracingbay...but if you find a way, let me know, i'm very curious!
the main downside of DD is that...it's expensive...no matter how you look at it
