So today Linus Tech Tips released a video going over what they think is the best voice chat platform. Thought this would be a really relevant video for us since I would like to see the team try to migrate over to discord. I know we have a lot of money invested in a current 150 user license for teamspeak so maybe when that gets close to running out we could switch to discord. I hope we can start a serious mature discussion about the pros and cons of this now to get the ball rolling on who would be for or against this move. Now onto my opinion on discord. I love it hands down. I have never had and issue with it except for the rare occasion that discord servers went down. Really the only reason I still have Teamspeak installed on my PC is BAM and the leagues that still use it for iracing. I use discord on a daily basis with some of the streamers I watch having their own and the one I'm in with my buddies that a few of the oval guys race against in top split NiS. I know some other people on the team have had some issues with it in the past. I'm hoping if we do decide to move to it that we can have enough time to rectify those issues so everyone can have a pain free experience with it and possibly cut down on one team expense with having to pay for a teamspeak license. Now I would like to see other people's opinions on this matter so the people that make these sorts of decisions for the team can see what the team as a whole thinks. It has its advantages in sharing images and files more easily but the notifications get on my nerves and then without them i just miss messages and conversations. I actually wish people would just use the forum instead.

Team Speak and Discord have really excellent voice quality. I would say that Team Speak is a tick more voice reliable than Discord, because its less complexity. And you can tweak the TS server to get even better voice quality. Discord has an easy and nice chat function, which can be used comfortable from your mobile phone when you are on the way to say quick "Hello" or linking some funny videos. The chatting feature of the forum is not working properly on my mobile phone at least for me.
What I miss from both is a working overlay for iRacing, to see who joined or who is currently speaking. Did not see that the TS Overwolf nor the Discord overlay which are working fine with most other games, except the iRacing setup for me.

I have not had a chance to use the voice chat function within discord yet. What makes it a better option than teamspeak?

I really like discord. All the nice chat functions where you can upload files/pictures easilly and easy to access from where ever. Me and Marc are using it a lot and we both are also using it on our phones. Works pretty good to just use as a normal phone call.

For the voice purpose I did found Discord better however it had some downs of it.
For people with button plates on the wheel and another button boxes had issue that it did not differentiate between button 1 on wheel and button box as it does not work with USB device ID correctly. This led in problem when you want to map some things like volume up/down, mute mic/speaker etc. This problem we have faces last year on LeMans and I have not rested if this is still issue.
on top of voice its great chatting tool which enable rapid communication with mates, gouping ppl to have nice overview who is racing what car, very detailed notification config will allow you to set it to you liking.

If I stay in Discord simply idle not even in a channel while in a DGFX race, I blink like crazy in the race. Don't have that issue with Teamspeak. Why? No clue, but discord lags the hell out of iRacing for me. I only go in there for the required drivers meeting and then exit. Guess my internet can't handle both. And I'm on a bulk account at an apartment complex, so I couldn't upgrade my internet even if I wanted to.

Definitely I prefer Discord, no doubt.
Forum still should stay how it is, but for quick discussion on many topics , voice during race... Thats my opinion.

I have multiple button boxes so I know the USB issue, when I contacted support they indicated that it was not a priority item so they could not give a timeframe on the fix. To solve it I use JoyToKey, this mappes a joy function to a key press and the I map mute our push to talk as the same key in JoToKy and the use that key in Discord. The JoyToKey workaround have one advantage when switching voice communication programs, you only need to map one key and all your devices are registered.

not feasible workaround - adding latency for key presses and unfortunately not only to mapped keys. They need to fix this in a root app before we will move fully to it.

I don't really see that there is anything wrong with the way we do things now. TS works very well imo. The forum and PM system works well. So we allready have good ways to communicate in text and in voice.
Discord is also good at doing both. It doesn't have a forum function so it won't replace the forum. It could replace the PM system we use in the forum. It could replace TS.
It won't really add any new features and we don't have any issues with the system we use nowadays.
The only thing that could be a real benefit is cost saving.
So my opninion. It's nice but not nessasary since our current system works very well. Unless we want to look for cost saving..
