OK so I finally got my pedals working. What you have to do if you use separate wheel / pedals is go to "Edit Assignments" and edit the Gas/Brake/Clutch assignments - it uses something weird as the default.
Very quick 1st impression - it's got a similar feel to the old TOCA games. I left all the defaults on so I guess I'll be able to get better graphics and feel of the car - the default wheel FFB etc for sure needs tweaking. Could be a lot of fun though. The early part of career mode isn't too challenging - I signed up for the Clio Cup and won the 1st 2 races in the series having done 3 laps practice at Donington.

PS: I loved TOCA so I didn't mean the comparison in a bad way although I guess I'm also saying it feels like a game rather than a simulator.

I started in the GT4, of course with the Mustang (seriously, what else is left to drive? ). I started with 75% in the first race, for the second 80% and I adjusted for round 3 the AI difficulty to 85%. Graphics, well, on my current system I pretty much run on completely low settings. And the wheel settings are just ridiculous. So much to adjust and nearly no (useful) explanation. So I kept them default, with slight adjustment to the steering sensitivity. But so far I am having a lot of fun. Limited Edition for 40€ is definitively worth a shot.

Laguna Seca definitively needs some work. As soon as one tire goes off track the car slows down as if you've thrown an anchor. Even steering back on track is very difficult. Never noticed this at Sonoma. Boy, and this rain and dynamic weather... iRacing needs this, ASAP.

To me its good to thrash about on but I don't think I'll ever spend shitloads of time playing it. It does look very nice though. I think it will be great for my friends to thrash about on instead of iRacing cause most of them can't manage a lap without wrecking the car. As you said Stephan WTF is with all the settings for the wheel. Its a bit over the top!!!

Like John "Badoer" King I won my first two races in the Clio Cup. It's not a bad game but don't expect iRacing physics or feel.

Has anyone tried Game Stock Car Extreme? I know Empty Box is a fan. Jup I have it. I played it before I came to iracing. Its based on rfactor (the original one) which means it is old, especially the graphics are old compared to pcars. But runs super smooth, the Ai is good and there is a lot of variety in cars and tracks, although the tracks are not laserscanned and after playing iracing you will find a lot of errors in the tracks. Multiplayer is a mess, but maybe there are some leagues if you really search for it. The cars are really sweet though, they have Niels Heusinkveld working on the ffb and physics and that really pays off. Like empty box said it is awesome and I must agree, although I barely play it anymore. Its just fun, it is rfacror at its very best and you dont need any mods. I say if you are interested (empty box has a lot of videos on it, check them out) then pick it up, it can't be expensive nowadays...

Cool, thanks Tommy Vandergucht. I was thinking mostly for offline racing so if the AI is decent I'll get it. Can't beat iRacing for online racing
