Took the car out to one of the last two drag strips left in Victoria over the weekend. A few weeks ago I discovered that I had worn out my Mickey Thomson ET racing tyres and at the same time I hadn't planned on taking the car up to the all Ford Race Day, was decided one day before the event lol but I did buy some good performance tyres (MAXXIS 274/45/17's). I knew I would have some problems with the rear shocks and being an IRS set up as well, I did get a lot of axel hopping from take off through to third gear which is when it hooked up properly to the track. Friday night was ideal 7 degrees c and after 4th run I worked a few things out and pulled in a 13.7 @ 105mph. I was really happy with that as on the Mickey T's I have done a 12.7 @ 108mph. Saturday morning was more test n tune first few runs where in the 14's then I dropped the tyre pressure down to 16 psi and even though I was still axel hopping my best for the morning was 13.4. Afternoon was time to dail in a time that you beat, so I went for a 13.5, first run I broke out buy .22 running a 13.2, annoyed but stoked at the same time lol. I was up against a mate who has a 4.0lt turbo that had had thousands $$$ thrown at it and even though I left the lights first and crossed the line first he ran a 12.6 also claims he missed 3rd, he is also running Mickey T's so has a ton more grip than I do on street tyres. Next time I'll have the right tyres and eat him alive and show him there is no substitute for cubes
I'll post some video's and pics up as soon a s I get them.

Shocking at 14.012 @102mph but the right lane was crap all weekend.

Good stuff.
Do you have a spec sheet on the forums for that car yet?

Spec sheet? as in what's been done to the engine?

Whole car spec sheet; let's see it!
What is the elevation like where you were running? I was expecting a 5.4 car to go a bit faster. Our stock LT1 4th gen cars run 13.8ish on slicks, LS1 cars about 13.4ish?

I don't have the spec sheet on the engine since the upgrades but I do now that the after the flat top forged piston went in and the heads/block were decked it's now running at 11:1 compression. The cam shafts were upgraded and the valves have been given a 3 face grind, while the crank shaft was blueprinted. I not 100% sure on how far he had to bore out the block if at all after blowing up the oil pump. On the dyno it pulled 299.5 rwkw's.
Stock the 5.4-litre Modular V8, with DOHC 4-valve cylinder heads from the Mustang Cobra R engine. It produced 290 kW (394 PS; 389 bhp) at 5500 rpm and 520 N·m (380 lb·ft) of torque at 4500 rpm. I would expect my numbers to be a lot higher than that. Hopefully I'll be able to get this info soon.
The track I was running at is only 238m (780ft) above sea level. While 7 degrees was good I have been at this track when it has been way lower than that.
I do expect next time out on slicks I should be able to get this into the very low 12's but will be pushing to hey high 11's and looking for high 12's on street tyres after I stop the axels tramp through first and second gear.

It's tough to get IRS to hook up. The guys on this side of the pond have that trouble with the Corvettes, GTO's, 5th Gen Camaros... I've seen quite a few solid-axle GTO's that were wild fast in comparison to a similarly built IRS car. 300kw is almost exactly 400hp, so 400 at the wheel assuming an average 15%ish drivetrain loss would put you around 460 crank horsepower. Good improvement for an N/A build.
What are your next plans for the build? Any forced induction ideas? For some reason I thought Cobra R's were supercharged. Or was that the Terminator Mustang lol. I'm obviously a bowtie guy.

Australia didn't get the supercharged engines until the current FG model which I think came out in 2008. The guy who rebuilt my engine uses Kenne Bell supercharger which I would like but I would need to lower the compression ratio which would cause some issues down the track. I have a friend the had the same engine with a Yelle Terra supercharger and he has had nothing but trouble with lifting heads, he has put to date at least 50k into it but saying t hat he is running from memory 550 rwkw and running in the 10 second bracket.
As for me I'll be doing a complete exhaust change along with the diff ratio and of course some new Micky Tee's might even get some front runner to take a little weight out the car. I have also thought about adding a shaker in the bonnet so I can add some more air into the cold air box. I do have adjustable shockers on the rear so next time out on the track I'll be messing around with those and maybe look at a stiffer spring to see if I can't get that to work with the street tyres. I really want to see what this can do on the street tyre as I don't believe in the theory that it a street car or a drag car, and I think I went a long way to proving that this time out.

Do you guys in Australia have a 10.5 scene? Over here in the states the 10.5" slick "outlaw" class is getting pretty popular. Our camaro and 5.3 truck are both on 10.5" Mickey Thompson ET Streets (I don't think they make that compound anymore, even though it hooks up WILDLY good for being a DOT street radial), and there's quite a few guys running 10.5" slicks on their weekend drivers that just fucking rip.

Nah we don't have that hear but sounds good. I know Mickey Thompson have changed the compounds not long ago and will have to look into who selling what over hear now, the ones I had I used on the street for a little while and they were bloody awesome but wore them with a couple of month driving to and from work every day.

Is this the same as what you have? I didn't know we had this but then again Melbourne has lost all the great racing as Bob Jane went broke after his wife took him for almost everything he had lol
