I'm about to build a PC and I'm going with the 1080. Nvidia has reference models avilable right now and the nonreference models haven't released. Sounds like they are coming soon though.
My question is, is it really that big of a deal to wait for these no reference models? Some stuff I read says at most it will be a difference of 4-5 fps which isn't much. The one thing that did concern me about the reference model was the heat throttling issue that has been discussed. Can someone put everything into perspective on how big of a deal these things really are? Are we talking major differences now or in the future (if i wanted to try 4k or cv2)...or are we talking minor differences that only matter on YouTube benchmarking video's.
The inner chikd in me that can't wait for anything wants to just buy one of the refernce cards available on nvidia's site so i can build my PC. But maybe i should wait a few more weeks. What do you guys think?
Thanks!

Non reference models are out. They are just sold out. I know not all have been released, but a few I've seen from the tech youtubers I watch when they were at Computex are out.

Ok, i thought that was a possibility. Think I saw the Asus cards are out or something. If I'm going nonreference I guess I'll go EVGA Classified which hasn't announced a date yet.
What card are you targeting Josh?

To be honest I really want to wait to see some benchmarks from the new RX 480 before I commit to Nvidia. I upgrade my gpu every other generation and this generation it's time. Buddy of mine posted a pic on twitter of 1080's in actual brick and mortar stores.
If I stay with nvidia I'm staying with EVGA. I have a 780 Superclocked right now. I may go up a tier on EVGA to get Full RGB LED's so I can run a red LED to match my color scheme of my PC. Superclocked only has white LED. Yes I'm one of those guys. I have a massive window on my case.
