Tommy Vandergucht what were you using before the Oculus? I ask because I'm coming from a pretty low resolution/graphic situation since I was projecting onto a large screen (130") and I was only using a GTX 760. So for me the change in resolution, etc wasn't really a big deal. Before I got my GTX 1080 I was doing races in VR at 40 fps and pretty much fine...lapping equal to my 2D times. And even though my lap times were the same, I raced much better because of everything you explained. I'm just able to judge things sooooo much easier in VR. Now I have the 1080 Strix and I run at 90 fps and I'm in love. So I'm guessing if you gave it some time you would get used to it but i understand what you're saying. I came from single screen with everything maxed at like 150 fps, so it's a totally different thing now.

Did my 1st race with the rift on the weekend. Top split Mazda Cup race. Started near back of the pack and finished 6th of 11 I think. Couple close calls were nerve wracking in the Rift! When there is an accident ahead of you in triple screens you maneuver around and go on your way. In the Rift it feels like you actually just avoided a real accident. Man I was sweating Gonna try a few more races this week to "get in the groove" I did notice the lack of AA actually grabs your attention a bit in the race and was distracting. Can't wait until they clear that up.

Sounds fun Can't wait for them to add the AA support, hopefully it will be a small update before next season.

I feel much more comfortable at Spa, maybe because it's a new track with better graphics?? Will try a GT3 race tomorrow to find out. Also, my 45 fps problem I had last week has to do with the Oculus program using up all the disk usage??? Today the same happened in practice. I load up a new session FPS drop to 45, GPU and CPU in red, 100% disk usage and the oculus program is doing a shit load of work on the disk? Anybody knows a way to shut it off?

Hey Tommy, did you have luck finding a fix for you FPS?
I recently upgraded my PC and I have been loving my Oculus even more. The image issues haven't really bothered me too much but at the same time I can't wait for them to improve that.
Does anyone know how to avoid losing audio when a pop up occurs? This has happened a few times and is annoying. I need to check the forums to see if anyone has worked around this but figured I'd ask you guys too.

Guys, I had the random severe FPS drop bad even after upgrading to a 1070 and seeing that the CPU and GPU usage never went over like 45%. I tried everything for weeks trying to solve it but what seems to have been working for over a week now was putting the "shader quality" to low. It pisses me off that I have a decent set up but have to run anything on low but it works for now until they figure out what is broken. hopefully next patch. Everything else in settings is still pretty much maxxed out still and no issues. YMMV

Jup I run shader quality low also. I can run it higher. But it's just a gamble on how it performs, especially race start with full grids. I do miss the fancy stuff, but I rather have less nice graphics and have steady 90 fps without having to worry for performance issues. So graphic quality low and I never had a problem, even in very big fields at the Nurburgring or Spa. I think it's not your hardware that's the problem, it's iRacing. We need updates! Just look at Assetto corsa, it's so nice and no fps problems at all.
I disabled all my other audio devices, since I had some issues aswell with the oculus audio.
I really enjoy the rift now in iracing. I think I'm getting faster also, definitly not slower. I did 5 stints in the 24h of Spa, 3 stints in ERC at the nurburgring and I was fast and even more consistent. +1 for the rift! And it's so much fun to battle with other cars! Today I also won a cspec race outpacing everyone by almost a second, so much fun!
Today I did some dirt rally and man those crashes are intense! But I'm going to need to invest a lot of time in it to get better, so I won't play it that much, I rather stick to iracing.

Anyone going rift to monitors and back in iRacing?
Is there a way to manage the black box (and other stuff) locations between the two modes: monitors vs rift?
Tried flipping back and forth yesterday but all the ui while racing is in weird spots on the screens and I spent a fair bit of time moving them around in the rift.
I'd like to be able to flip back and forth but with this "black box location" thing it's a bit of a pain to do?

Unfortunately no and it's a pain in the balls. Personally I never drive on monitor anymore but I do prefer to spectate on screen. So all I ever have to really move is the black box if I am spotting. Who knows, maybe they will surprise us and make the UI save for whatever device you are displaying on. One can hope!

First thing I noticed was a performance increase and have now turned most of the settings up to high ans enabled stuff that was off. Still haven't tested with a full grid but it's definitely working better then before. I feelt that the picture quality was more then OK before this update and its even better now with the AA support. But can't say it's like a day and night difference when racing but is sure does makes it a little bit more crisp. Never did a comparison before i booted up the new update. The bigger "moving area" is also definitely an improvement. Only did some testing in the Mercedes on COTA with a session of 15-20 I think, was the ERC practice last night and can't remember exactly how many where on it and it was running stable. Also did some laps on Imola in the GT1 and there is still drops in the last turn but thats just who the track is atm I guess. I don't really like to focus mutch on exactly how high the fps is, as long as it feels smooth I'm more the happy. Overall a good update for VR

AA has definitely cleaned up the jaggies a fair bit. I tested with 4x AA. Running 8x AA was a bit too much for my system.

Agreed, it's a nice upgrade but not a game changer.

I'm getting some super super solid performance nowadays. I have AA at 4, almost everything up high except for 1 or 2 things. Shadows on, except for the dynamic ones. I detuned the PD to 100 and, with AA on, I don't notice any difference, but the performance has increased massively. It just runs so flawlessly now, it's super super much fun! Since yesterday I also don't have the fps drop at the last turn at Imola anymore. Le Mans is super smooth now. I only struggle at the Nurburgring GP track somehow. I think iRacing is updating stuff here and there and it just seems to get better and better. I did a 29 car caddy race today at the Nurburgring (without the GP part) and fps dropped maybe twice, for a second, going to something like 70. It didn't hurt at all. It was so much fun, steady 90 fps, no problems at all, just flat out racing.
The only thing I have is the p-bar. It's constant yellow, but sometimes it just randomly disappears. I spent a few hours trying to solve it, including all the settings super low and the graphics sliders very low, but still the p-bar. I set all the settings back, and it just seems random, sometimes it's there, but sometimes it disappears, even with higher loads, sometimes it's not there. On the other hand, it doesn't seem to have any effect on either fps, gameplay or whatever. The cpu and gpu loads are both grey and still pretty low, so I just ignore the p-bar for now, maybe iRacing will fix it.
Today I also tried to drive a few laps on a single screen again, just to see what it was like. I raced all those years on a single screen, all those laps, all those races, all those 24 hour races. And I just couldn't do it anymore. No sense of speed, couldn't see the apexes, no clue how much to brake. All these years of racing were based on memory, last lap I started braking here, it didn't work, so now I brake there. It was all based on trial and error. Now with the rift you have a much better sense of speed, you just know, or feel when to brake. It's much easier to learn new tracks, I am much more consistent, it is much easier to see bumps, camber, uphill downhill, etc and it is much easier to catch a car sliding. All of a sudden I like looser setups, because it's easy to manage the oversteer anyway, because you can see it. With all these things now working so well (iRacing is at the same VR level as Assetto Corsa IMO, great catch up iRacing!) it is a much cooler racing experience, it is making me faster, and it's just so much fun! The Nordschleife was a scary experience on a screen, there were bumps that you don't really notice on a screen, but they affect the car so much, now in VR you just see them and you can anticipate what they will do, now it's just fun! I could never go back to a screen and I am really confused how I was able to spend so much time of my life racing on a screen, it's just no fun! I am super enthusiastic about VR and the Rift. I am happy with how it is working on my system (hey I only have a GTX970, not the newest fancy shiny stuff) and I think iRacing is doing a good job! I also spent about an hour watching replays in VR, the indy 500 one is just so awesome, so much speed!!! Just fix the hands please.

Amen Tommy. I experience pretty much the same thing. I am just praying it is as good and solid the first time I use it in a team event like DGFX or other.

Wow, I just tried the settings you suggested Tommy and it made a noticeable difference...way nicer! i had lowered my settings because of the studders every once in a while but i just jacked everything up (except dynamic shadows) and put the PD at 100...BAM (haha). Thanks!

Tommy Vandergucht Marc Torres Mattias MagnussonGents, After hearing Carl talking so much about the Oculus, i decided to give it another try. I bought one around january 2016 but got pissed because of the lack of resolution, and i sold it within a week. Now I decided to give it another shot, got a DK2 for 250e (not too high, i can always resell it at the same), and installed it yesterday. Thank god I had a Xbox 360 controller lying around because without it you cannot center your view and the software would go crazy. I fired up iRacing and it is now better than what I remember, but I have some questions: 1. Back in January, i remember using Sweet FX. Is it still needed or outdated given iracing's development in vr implementation? 2. Pixel Density: does it help on a DK2 to increase this value? What is the default one? what is suggested? what impact does it have on performances? (I have a fairly decent pc but nothing to be proud of. Radeon 280 in the graphics compartment, with 4gb if i'm not mistaken) also, I used to use JRT, is it still possible to have it visible in the Rift? What do you guys use to calculate fuel and things like those? I did just a few laps yesterday night in the Fr2.0 and HPD to see how it is, and I actually like it more than last january. I remember previously the field of view was much narrower, while this time it feels wider. Not sure if it's bad memory, but it does feel like you can see more.

I'm sorry, but I cannot really help you, DK2 works totally different than CV1...

Well first of sweetFX dosnt work with Oculus +1.0 version and probably never will what I've read.
Second you wanna experiment with the pixel density and AA and find a good match but a PD over 200 won't do any better just reduce performance.
And last you can't have overlay in the rift yet, will probably come later in the future. I use Digital racing engineer, there is a thread about it in the VR sub forum on iRacing. It uses Vocie attack and iRacing API (no idea really how it works). But with that I can after a few laps ask the DRE to do a lot of very usefull stuff like.
Fuel Needed - Calculates the fuel needed to Finnish the session based on fuel data from the previous laps.
Laps left - Laps left in session, works very good in timed races.
Laps left in tank - Laps left based on fuel data.
Time left in tank - time left in tank based on fuel data.
And alot more stuff like pit options and general information on track.
For example when a faster car is catching you it gives you a heads up. Same if you went off track and a car I approaching.
There should be a demo version to try out.
